Police have identified the victims of the Baby Coach Bus crash that claimed two lives and left 19 others seriously injured along the Pakwach–Nebbi road on the night of Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

The head-on collision involved a Baby Coach bus, registration number UBB 145S, and a Benz fuel tanker, registration number KBW 679/ZG 0855M, at Payila in Alwi Sub-county, Pakwach District, at around 9:35 PM.

Collins Asea, the West Nile Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the development and said the fatal incident was registered under reference number TAR.13/2025 at Pakwach Central Police Station.

The deceased have been identified as Mustafa Male, 46, a Ugandan national and driver of the bus, and Isaac Adan Umar, 48, a Kenyan national and driver of the fuel tanker. Both died on the spot. The injured victims are receiving treatment at Pakwach Health Centre IV, Angal Hospital, and Nebbi General Hospital.

The victims include: Harriet Umarimungu, 35, of Onjuku, Thatha Division in Nebbi Municipality; Paska Mananu, 36, of Nyacara Cell, Nebbi Municipality; Francis Bayo, 32, from Ediofe, Arua City; Remio Unyuth, 65, of Paidha, Zombo District; Johnstone Anguandia, 35, from Luwero; Faith Kisa, 38, of Ungami Upper, Nebbi; and Sharon Michiparwoth, a 13-year-old girl from Zombo.

Others are Jackline Ururach, 60, of Paidha, Zombo, who sustained a broken right arm; Peace Zulaika, 27, of Entebbe in Zombo; Sharon Giramira, 17, of Nebbi; Claude Banny, 49, from Bunia in the Democratic Republic of the Congo; Masika Aganze, 25, also from Bunia; Bitolona Faidha, 21, from Bunia; and Michael Bisanduyu, 53, of Juanyundu East, Paidha in Zombo.

Additional victims include Hassan Ongeowur, 26, from Nebbi; Lembe Okwir, 25, from Bunia; Elly Bitumen, 28, of Parombo in Nebbi; Nuhamed Asuman, 27, of Codi Leysao in Kenya; and Joyce Anuria, 39, from Arua. Police say the scene of the accident was secured by officers from Pakwach, led by the District Police Commander and a rescue team.

Preliminary investigations point to careless driving by the bus driver as the cause of the accident. Despite clear markings and the fuel tanker being parked off the lane, the bus reportedly veered and collided head-on with the tanker.

Both vehicles have since been towed and are parked at Pakwach Central Police Station. Postmortems were conducted on the deceased, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
