Electorates in Vurra constituency Arua district, have commended their Member of Parliament Yovan Adriko for cementing international relations with Democratic Republic of Congo.

For years, business operators in Uganda have had hard times battling claimed charges from the authorities of Democratic Republic of Congo, expressed concerns over high unaccounted and documented taxes levied on them by the Congolese administration among other immigration rules affecting their participation in international trade with DR Congo.

According to Titia Fabiano a resident in Logiri sub county Arua district, Yovan Adriko deserves more elective terms to attract more developments.

“Since we are along the borderline with Democratic Republic of Congo, we used to face a lot of challenges once we crossed to Congo but as he is a good collaborator with the administration in Congo, this strengthened our relationship with the Congolese and once we enter DRC the authorities don’t see us as enemies and so the leadership in Uganda. We are ready to send him back to parliament for the second or even third time.’

Yovan Adriko has been battling court cases in the first two years after attaining a parliament seat from Engineer Ajedra Aridru during the 2021 general elections.
Ciki Mawa a resident in Vurra sub county recounts that these setbacks made the MP not to perform to the expectations.

“Adriko has done very good things but since the term is going to end were going to give him another vote. If he was not to be disrupted he would have done more.”
When contacted Yovan Adriko raised concerns over high population of the parliamentarians that limits his efforts in representing the people.

“In floor of the Parliament we’re very many, we’re over 500 MPs and to get opportunity there to talk daily is really tug of war, but if I get opportunity to express myself at least I will be happy, the opportunity there is just rare.”

As per the constitution, to authenticate the performance of a Member of Parliament one has to check on the four core mandates of legislation, representation, Budget appropriation and oversight other than participating in community service and goodwill.
