President Salva Kiir has issued a presidential decree removing Emmanuel Tete Ezbon as commissioner of Juba County and appointing Samuel Emiliano Wani Pitia as his replacement in the Revitalized Transitional Government of Central Equatoria State.

Tete was appointed commissioner of Juba County in March 2024 under a presidential decree as part of the unity government. He is aligned with the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA), one of the signatory parties to the 2018 peace agreement.

Under the 2018 revitalized peace agreement, Kiir retains the authority to appoint and dismiss officials at state and county levels within the power-sharing arrangement of the unity government.

The decree, issued under Article 106A(2)(a) of South Sudan’s Transitional Constitution and Section 38(1) of the Interpretation of Laws and General Provisions Act, takes effect immediately.

In a statement, the president thanked the outgoing commissioner for his service and wished the new appointee success in his duties.

The decree was announced on Wednesday night by Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony on behalf of the president.
