The Parish Priest of Holy Rosary Parish Gulu, Rev.Fr. Eric Justin Uma on Friday 02/08/2024 administered the Sacrament of Baptism to 56 children and challenged their parents not to relinquish their cardinal responsibility of making sure that their children know God for them to be good people in future when they grow up.

“A parent who teaches her child to know God does not worry even when her child is away because her child fears God. And this is why there is a lot of corruption cases in the world because we have left the Godly way of upbringing children, lets continue putting our faith in action so these children can grow with God’s grace,
many of you here are not wedded in the church yet Jesus teaches us that the union between a man and woman should be sacramental, you are living in sin, rectify your relationship in front of God so that your children are born and raised in matrimonial homes, you can make that decision. Don’t allow yourself to be the second or third wife because it’s not the will of God,” he echoed.

Akello Susan whose daughter was among the baptized children also encouraged her fellow parents to take their children for baptism because it is important in a child’s life

“The importance of baptizing children is that it washes away the inherited sins from our ancestors and parents, so a child can grow in Christ, it also shows the child identity of the church to follow like the catholic church, it depends on how a parent teaches her/his child, if you teach the child Godly way, that’s how the child grows and vice versa,” she remarked.

Out of the 56 children baptized children 31 were girls, 25 boys in which one candidate received the Sacrament of confirmation.

Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration and initiation into the Church that was begun by Jesus, who accepted baptism from St. John the Baptist and also ordered the Apostles to baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19).

According to the teaching of St. Paul, which draws an analogy with the death and Resurrection of Jesus, baptism is death to a former life and the emergence of a new person, which is signified by the outward sign of water (Catholic baptism involves pouring or sprinkling water over the candidate’s head).

Baptism is understood, therefore, as the total annulment of the sins of one’s past and the emergence of a totally innocent person.
