As the ministry of God continues to grow with the increasing number of Christians in Arua diocese, 12 new priests were ordained on Saturday July 27, 2024, in Ediofe cathedral to serve in the pastoral work. Along the ordained priests were three seminarians who were ordained as deacons.
While giving his homily, the Bishop of Arua diocese, the Rt. Rev. Sabino Ochan Odoki encouraged families to send their children for God’s service, and calls upon the ordained priests to observe the Holy Father’s message,
“The candidates for ordination come from families, if you have a family and there are still young people there, talk to them because the church has to continue serving and Arua is a missionary diocese, and the holy father appeals to the priests to be always close to God, a priest must have closeness to the bishop, a priest must be close to the fellow priests and the holy father says, priests must be close to the people of God,” the bishop urged.
Similarly, the vicar general of the diocese, Monsignor Kasto Adeti called upon the newly ordained priests to be strong in faith.
Mario Obiga Kania, the minister of state for urban development appealed to the priests to mobilize the Christians to fight against poverty, as they are respected, and trusted by them,
“As a Christian, am happy about the growth of the number of priests in our diocese, now that they have come to serve the people, I would like the church to look at the people as a whole, there is the spiritual aspect, but also we all know that the good spirit dwells in a good body, my appeal is that, we should join hands to promote the welfare of the people, the income generating capacity of the people.” Obiga said
The newly ordained priests were appointed by the bishop to go and serve at different capacities in a number of parishes in the diocese.
