PROTECT OUR GIRLS: HON OSORU MOURINE SOUNDS ALARM ON DANGERS OF CHILD LABOR ABROAD

The Arua City Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Osoru Mourine, has sounded a stern warning to parents against sending their underage daughters to work abroad as domestic workers, citing concerns over their safety and well-being.
"As mothers, you send our young girls to work as house maids because you want your life to change but once when these girls reach their destination, they are unexpectedly tortured and you are down there happy that your daughter is working abroad. If things are tough at home, please be patient and try to tolerate the situation. And hopefully, she'll return unharmed if luck is on your side. However, if things don't go well, she might come back with a baby and various health issues.
Thus, my dear citizens of Arua City, let's not send our girls to work as house maids for strangers unless the employer is a relative or someone you know well" warned Hon Osoru.
She further urges parents and guardians to exercise extreme caution and to only consider sending their children abroad for work through official channels, such as the Ministry of Labor.
"The government has designated certain companies that individuals must go through to work abroad, such as the Ministry of Labor, as opposed to unauthorized agencies that are difficult to trace within the government system" added Mourine.
As the debate on the safety of Ugandan migrant workers continues, Hon. Osoru’s warning serves as a timely reminder to parents and guardians to prioritize the welfare and security of their children and with the issue showing no signs of abating, stakeholders are urged to work together to find lasting solutions and protect the rights of vulnerable Ugandan youth.
