Sixty Persons with Disabilities leaders in Loro Sub County, Oyam District, have been trained on financial literacy and inclusion.

The empowered leaders, drawn from various parishes were encouraged to adopt responsible saving, borrowing, and investment strategies to drive economic growth and self-reliance.

Aron Bulukwa, the Opportunity Bank-Kamdini branch manager, stated that they believe by equipping these leaders with the right financial skills, they are empowering entire communities and creating opportunities for all.

Francis Odongo Ali, the chairperson of people with disabilities in Oyam District commended Opportunity Bank for the initiative which he said has equipped PWDs with essential skills to manage resources efficiently, launch sustainable projects, and promote financial accessibility within their communities.

"We are grateful for this initiative, as the skills gained will empower PWDs to manage resources effectively, initiate sustainable projects, and advocate for greater financial accessibility." Odongo explained.

Bonny Oyena, the chairperson of the Atur Disabled Group in Atop Parish said, the training revealed financial opportunities in his community, empowering him to thrive despite barriers posed by his disability status.

"This training has opened my eyes to the financial opportunities within my community. It has shown me that I can thrive financially, despite my disability status." Oyena said.

Christine Nyana, the Community Development Officer of Loro Sub County, made a strong appeal to People with Disabilities (PWDs) to actively join Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) groups. She noted that saving and collaboration is the only way to attract support from the government or well-wishers.

"Well-performing VSLA groups could attract support from the government or well-wishers, increasing opportunities for members with disabilities to thrive," Nyana emphasized.

Nelson Okunu, the LCIII Chairperson of Loro Sub County, pledged his commitment to connect with development partners and government programs to improve the livelihoods and status of households for People with Disabilities.

"We are committed to transforming the lives of People with Disabilities by connecting their groups to development partners and government programs, ensuring that every household achieves improved status and opportunities for growth,"Okunu confirmed.
