Following the recent rampant killings by mob in Ajia sub-county in Arua district, the sub-county leadership has sought for the intervention of God as one of the solutions to avert the rampant mob actions in the sub-county by organizing peace, healing and reconciliation prayers lead by the three religious denominations.

Msgr Charles Idraku the episcopal vicar of Vurra vicarate who represented the Bishop of Arua catholic diocese Rt Rev Sabino Ocan Odoki during the peace and reconciliation prayers urges the sub-county leadership of Ajia to organize such prayers frequently to change the mindset of the community.

“This is just the beginning of renewal because forgiveness and reconciliation takes a process, it comes from the heart and it is not a one-time thing and therefore this is a great beginning for the community here, we have people who have bought land here in Ajia sub-county, the indigenous people here, political leaders and the local community members who have nothing to do with some of these crimes but they feel touched and hurt,” Monsignor Idraku said.

Sheik Noah Musa Ori the county sheik of Vurra Muslim County who represented the district Khadi of Arua Muslim district requested the prayers to be organized for the whole Arua district.

“I request from the relevant authorities that this prayers should not only be for the people of Ajia alone but for the whole of Arua district because even when I left Arivu sub-county there was a dead body, the community there killed a certain man and burned the dead body, if we don’t preach peace, people will not change from this bad behaviors and it is good for religious leaders to tell people what to do,” Sheik Musa noted.

Rev. Mataz Econi the archdeacon of Vurra archdeaconry who represented the Bishop of Madi West Nile diocese Rt Rev Charles Collins Andaku during the peace and reconciliation prayers emphasized peace and unity for the people of Ajia sub-county through the book of second Chronicles chapter seven.

He said, “the book of second chronicles chapter seven verse fourteen, if they pray to me, repent and turn away from the evil they have been doing, then I will hear them in heaven and forgive their sins and make their lands prosperous again.”

There has been rampant killings in Ajia Sub-county mostly of them related to land disputes between the landlords and their tenants which mostly results into violence.

The most recent famous one being the murder of the acting district health officer of Arua Late Paul Bishop Drileba by mob in Oyeku village Ombokoro parish Ajia sub-county on Saturday November 23, 2024.
