The communities of Vura Bilinyo and Madulu in Moyo Sub-county, Moyo District, have expressed excitement over the ongoing rehabilitation of the Moyo Sub-county–Afoji Road and the fixing of Atiatia Culvert by the Ministry of Works and Transport.

The residents say they have suffered for a long time while using the road, particularly during the rainy season, when some sections become difficult to navigate.

Anzio Bilbao Sunday, a resident of Vura Bilinyo, says their suffering has gone on for about three years, with movement becoming difficult whenever it rains.

He says residents have repeatedly called for intervention from the sub-county, district and national governments, particularly to have culverts fixed at critical points along the road.

He says improving the road will ease the movement of people, as it also connects to South Sudan, potentially boosting trade and helping farmers transport their produce.

“We have been suffering here for around three years now because if it rains here, vehicles can’t pass. They even get stuck,” He notes.

Elyo Dominic, a resident of Vura Madulu, also expressed his joy over the maintenance of the road, saying he cannot wait to see the completion of the culvert works.

“I am very happy, just waiting to see all the culverts fixed so that we can enjoy the road without any challenges, since we have suffered a lot,” he points out.

Gabani Roland Ukuga, the Moyo Sub-county LC3 Chairperson, says the sub-county has been working closely with the contractor to ensure the road works are completed.

“It’s not only this Atiatia Culvert. It takes all culverts along this road from Moyo Sub-county up to Afoji that are going to be worked on within this one month,” he assured the people.

He further urged members of the community to report any challenges they encounter so that attention can be given to them, saying the authorities are committed to ensuring service delivery for the benefit of the community.
