RELIGIOUS LEADERS CALL ON STUDENTS TO EMULATE THE UGANDA MARTYRS’ BY STANDING FIRM IN THEIR FAITH

3rd June of every year is the feast of the Uganda martyrs who laid down their lives for their faith , as Christians across the world gather to celebrate the martyr’s day celebrations at Uganda martyrs shrine in Namugongo, the faithful’s who miss joining the rest gather and offer mass at the different Parishes in union with those in Namugongo.
St Mary’s Ediofe girl’s secondary school is one of the schools in the country that joined the multitude in Namugongo to commemorate the martyr’s day celebrations.
Michael Ocara the deputy head teacher in charge of academics at Ediofe girl’s secondary schools says they organize mass for the students and the staff at the school to emulate the Uganda martyrs who sacrificed their live for their faith. “By emulating them we become true witness of Christ and this makes us to do the right thing for us at school level it will guide us and the students in following what is expected of us in the school as Christians and as faithful from time to time to be true witness of Christ”, Ocara said.
Deacon Ubaldo Inziku a missionary of Jesus the divine master who was the co celebrant, in his message urges students to be witness of Christ by standing firm in the faith. “the life of the Uganda martyrs is calling us to stand our ground to stand to what the Catholic Church is teaching us to witness, be it even at the expense of our lives at the expense of losing joy, finances, but we stand to be Catholics, to be Christians, in all circumstances this is the same thing that we in the students life or the learners themselves also called to be witness wherever they are”, He added.
Nancy Asinanzu Fabiola the head girls of st Mary’s Ediofe girl’s secondary school says the martyr’s celebration helps them increase their faith in God.
The Uganda martyrs are a group of 22 catholic and 23 Anglican converts to Christianity who were executed between 1885 and 1887 under the orders of kabaka Mwanga, The African Roman catholic martyrs were collectively beatified by Pope Benedict XV in 1920.
