Vivo Energy Uganda, the company that distributes and markets Shell-branded fuels and lubricants in Uganda has trained pupils of Lira P7 School in Lira City on road safety for them to become road safety ambassadors in the community.
The Vivo Energy Uganda corporate communications manager, Valery Okecho, explains why Vivo Energy is reaching out to schools, “Vivo also donates and promotes the use of child-specific safety helmets for school-going children where over 85 helmets were given out to learners who are brought on Boda Bodas.”

Benson Ario, the school headteacher said the donation of Helmets will go a long way in providing safety to the pupils who use boda bodas as their transport means for coming to school every day.
“Many people would have survived during road crashes if they had put on helmets, so the use of helmets must be embraced at all times once you are traveling on boda boda,” he remarked.
The traffic police spokesperson, Michael Kananura, believes that the partnership between Uganda Police Force and Vivo Energy Uganda will help a lot in the aspect of road safety sensitization which in turn will help to curb down road crashes.
Meanwhile, Matias Okwir, the North Kyoga Regional Police OC traffic commander, cautioned Boda Boda riders against carrying two passengers especially children which says is one of the contributing factors to road crash incidents.
“Please our dear riders stop carrying two or more passengers, it`s against the traffic guidelines, we shall arrest if you don’t abide by that,” he echoed
