Archbishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Gulu Dr. John Baptist Odama has elevated Scared Heart of Jesus chapel Palenga into a parish making it the newest parish in the archdiocese.
His Grace, Dr. John Baptist Odama, thanked the almighty God for letting him to erect the new parish which is dedicated to sacred heart of Jesus and is the 35th parish in the archdiocese of Gulu. “I ask you the parishioners of this new parish to stand firm in your faith, you welcome everyone who comes here, support the parish and make it to develop,” he appealed.

Rev. Fr. John Mark Oryem, the newly appointed parish priest of Sacred Heart of Jesus Palenga parish thanked the archbishop emeritus for elevating their chapel to parish before he hands over the archdiocese of Gulu the new archbishop elect. “As the first parish priest of this new parish, I am very much delighted by this milestone, I now urge you the Christians to be united, let’s work hard to develop our new parish,” he echoed.
The chairperson pastoral council of Scared Heart of Jesus Palenga parish, Mr. Patrick Logeny Koyo, said they are very happy to get a new parish, however he said the elevation has come with a lot of work to be done in order to develop the parish, calling on the youth to work hard hand in hand with the elders to support the parish.
This new parish borders Minakulu parish, Opit parish, Koch Goma parish, All Saints Layibi parish and St. Joseph’s Cathedral Parish Gulu and it will serve 13 chapels.
