Traders in Awindiri market on Tuesday September 10, 2024, woke up to a shocking death of a man in one of the houses within the market.

The house located on Awindiri hill where the market extends is said to be belonging to a man based in Australia.

Oyer Alex the chairperson LC1 of Awindiri cell says on being informed the only thing his office could do was to coordinate with the police to pick up the body. “I got a call from the clerk that I should first come here, some body collapsed in one of the house in Awindiri market. She told me the person is dead. There is currently no way we can identify him and we don’t have any details on him. Maybe we shall use the friends to identify who the person is,” he said.

According to some of the vendors in the market, the deceased only identified as Wanadi, a Kebu by tribe has been having a history of epilepsy and it is suspected that the same could have led to his demise.

Some traders explained that, the deceased began making noise from the house at around 7 am, but, people feared to help him and no one could come to his aid because the house is in most cases occupied by wrong elements and when they realized he was alone, he had started vomiting and later on when he vomited blood he eventually passed on.

Oyer the LC 1 of the area notes that the same building has been a source of insecurity in the market but he regrets that whenever arrests are made the same individuals are released by the police on grounds of lack of evidence.

“Most of these wrongdoers sleep here and this is their place where they stay the whole day, at least every month we arrest more than two or three people in this area only that they don’t give up and we don’t know what best we can do so that they leave this place. We really fear them even the venders fear this people because they are very harmful to the community. We really encourage the police or the higher authority not to give up, let action be taken more than two times in a month and for sure if this people can be taken to prison it could help us.  We have government prisons, let them go and work there,” Oyer cried out.

By press time no relative had shown up to identify the deceased, meanwhile the police retrieved the body from the house and took it to Arua regional referral hospital mortuary for postmortem and subsequent releasing to the relatives for burial.
