The demand for the Spiro electric bikes that run on rechargeable battery power is rising in West Nile with many riders choosing the bike due to its numerous advantages for sustainable public transport and commercial delivery use in the sub-region.
Since the launch of the motorbikes in June this year, a good number of commercial riders are rushing for the bikes which are mostly demanded on loan in the main shop in Arua city.
Simon Peter Kumakech, the regional sales officer explains that, the bike is highly demanded in sub-region with many more customers attracted by its unique attributes every day.
“The fast day we launched, we sold about 100 bikes, our process is very simple, you need to have a National ID, local council one recommendation letter, two guarantors and a deposit of 120,000 shillings, then you wait for the bikes, it normally take seven days, in terms of payment, it’s very flexible, daily in 9340 shillings,” Simon said.
Due to its advantage of running without fuel and many other requirements for the ordinary motorbikes, a good number of the boda boda riders in the region are now rushing for these electric bikes,
Christopher Anyanjo, a boda boda rider in Arua city explains the advantages they have realized with the bikes,
“This bike is very okay because it doesn’t use fuel, it doesn’t use engine oil, you can raise your money and keep it, also there are no things that can get spoiled anyhow, it’s a strong machine, I have been using the other bike before but that one takes a lot of fuel, and a lot of things to be changed,” said Christopher.
As the motorbikes operate on rechargeable batteries which are swapped at specific stations, swapping the used batteries has been a challenge for the riders in other places.
But according to the regional sales officer, this challenge will soon be history with the establishment of the swap stations in different locations,
“You pay according to the percentage of the battery, if the battery is completely zero, you will pay 8400 shillings, but if it’s at 50 percent, you pay 4200 shillings, in Arua we have two swap stations that is in Odia then in Ewuata, we are creating actually four, Manibe, Vurra, Crab, then we have along YY bus terminal, we are also expanding rapidly to other districts within West Nile region, we will have our foot prints in Maraca, Koboko, Yumbe, Agjumani, Nebbi, Pakwach,” Simon said.
With the rise in its mobility, many members of the community are taking up the use of the new motorcycle and this makes Spiro to capture more market in the sub-region.
