The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party leader Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) has called for reunion of the opposition parties in Uganda in a bid to build a stronger bond to achieve their target to overcoming the rule of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), party which they say is a dictatorship rule.

Oboi who was speaking during the last funeral rite of late Hon. John Arumadri Drazu the former Member Of Parliament for the then Madi Okollo county and a founding member of the FDC party at his home in Komite cell, Pokea ward Ayivu division in Arua city on Monday grieved that the splits and fights among the opposition parties deprives them from the fight for freedom in this country.

“Should we really want to overcome the troubles that this country is going through we need to be united, this multiple parties we are forming out of one has got a side effect of weakening us, I want to call on the entire opposition in this country to come together we are spending a lot of energy tiring ourselves apart, those efforts if put together could help us in this struggle to free our country from the York of dictatorship,” Amuriat lamented.

The FDC party which was once Uganda’s biggest opposition party has seen series of split among her members since 2020, with some members joining Gen. Mugisha Muntu’s Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) party and others now moving with FDC party founder Rtd. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye from Najjanakumbi to Katonga as they sprint to register a new political party, the People’s Front for Freedom.

Speaking as the chief mourner at the same event, the founding president of the FDC party Rtd.  Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye besought the opposition parties in the country to consider achieving justice for each other as a unifying factor for the opposition in the country.

“Justice will not be brought by these parties, we have one task which is non-partisan to ensure that there’s justice in our country, so we all must unite first of all to get justice then we can argue about how to govern our country fairly, let’s look for each other remembering that our mission is justice,” Besigye pleaded.
