SPORT: GULU CITY FALCONS RUGBY CLUB PREPARES TO HOST THE NATIONAL RUGBY SEVENS SERIES AT PECE WAR MEMORIAL STADIUM

The National Rugby Sevens Series 2024 is heading to Northern Uganda with Gulu City Falcons Rugby Club poised to host the fourth Circuit at Pece war Memorial Stadium, Gulu on from the September 7 to 8, 2024.
According to Amato James, the Chairperson Northern Uganda Rugby Association, as the association, they are preparing intensively starting with the selection of teams from Northern Uganda to participate that was done on August 17, 2024.
“We are preparing as Northern Uganda to see that our clubs that are going to participate in this game perform well to our expectation, we trust them but not all of them will participate. We are going to pick top three plus the host making it four teams for Gents from Northern Uganda that will participate in that Game. And then two ladies` teams that will participate, including Kitgum Queens who is playing now in all the series, making it a total of three ladies` teams from Northern Uganda,” he said.
However, Amato requested the business people to join them and participate in this event to promote their business, as such boosts economic development. “I therefore request the business community to come and promote their business because there are over 400 people who will come so this is the opportunity and when a visitor comes to your home, do not let the visitor go without knowing that there are good things in Gulu City,” he added.
Kilama Boniface, the secretary of Gulu city Rugby Club explained that the Gulu City Falcons Rugby Club is set to play and more excited to participate given the fact that the circuit is going to be hosted by them.
“This is not the first time Gulu City Falcons Rugby club is participating in this tournament, this will now be the 3rd year, though we are happy to have it back in Gulu again, the boys are more excited, this is our home ground, we want to defend the title from home ground, we want to put up a good show, a good challenge for our fans, we don’t want to disappoint the people at home,” Kilama noted
Odoch Rooney, a Gulu City Falcons player, explained that they are training hard to bring out the best in them and make their supporters proud.
Fixtures for this year
The Entebbe 7s was the opening circuit for this series, hosted by Plascon Mongers rugby club in Entebbe, on August 10 and 11, and the second one was the Mbale 7s that took place on August 17 and 18 this year, hosted by the Mbale Elephants.
Kyadondo 7s will be played on August 24 and 25, 2024 followed by the Gulu 7s on September 7 and 8 and then Kyabazinga 7s on September 14 and 15, Mbarara 7S on September 28 and 29, with the finale circuit being the Rujumba 7s to be hosted by the Black Pirates Rugby club at Kings Park Bweyogerere, on October 5 and 6.
