Over one hundred fifty thousand student leaders from Gulu and Lira Universities have benefited from a capacity building training on integrity and good leadership.

Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria, the Deputy Inspector General of Government said that the training is very significant in the lives of the student leaders.

“When young student leaders of Northern Uganda make integrity their guiding principles, they unlock endless possibilities for growth and transformation because we have seen that degeneration values are causing corruption and we have singled out integrity because if student’ leaders stand out as distinctive leaders, they can offer leadership as an example and reduce corruption in this country,” said Achan

Tim Kreutter the founder and patron of African Youth Leadership Forum (AYLF) that organized the training, said student leaders are future leaders that need to be mentored and molded well.

“We work throughout East Africa and we focus on student leaders, we have chapters of these and 200 universities in 7 countries of East Africa, we see the student leaders of today become future leaders if given good mentorship, good leadership principles and values in the best way to make sure we have good leaders in future,” said Kreutter.

Prof. Openjuru George Ladaa, the vice Chancellor of Gulu University says that the training has the component of Christian values and morals and asked the student leaders to make good use of.

”This student leaders training is based on Christian faith and if well developed, it will help produce capable leaders in terms of integrity,” said Openyjuru.
Moses Akena the student chapter coordinator for the AYLF at Gulu University said the training seeks to transform leadership.

”AYLF is a movement of young people who are just trying to seek a better way of transforming leadership, the mission is a transformed leadership culture in Africa. We bring them together to challenge, mentor, and teach them on how best they handle life problems,” said Akena.

Africa Youth Leadership Forum, is a collaborative initiative that brings together University Students, Student Leaders, and alumni from both public and private Universities, for mentorship, training, networking, and capacity building that seeks to advance values and principles that promote transformational and servant leadership in Africa.
