Uganda Airlines is planning to expand its network to Asia, Europe, the Middle East and other African destinations while introducing domestic flights as part of efforts to strengthen the national carrier’s commercial operations.
The plans were presented on Monday by the airline’s executive leadership, led by Acting Chief Executive Officer Girma Wake, during a meeting with Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe.
The airline said it will prioritise better utilisation of its existing aircraft as it seeks to grow its international network from Entebbe while responding to demand for air travel within Uganda.
Management also outlined plans to bring aircraft maintenance and ground-handling services in-house to cut operational costs and build the airline’s internal technical capacity.
The carrier said it will train more Ugandan aviation personnel to support the planned expansion and reduce reliance on external service providers.
The strategy comes as Uganda Airlines undergoes structural changes aimed at improving corporate governance, stabilising daily operations and positioning the carrier for long-term commercial growth.
However, management said the success of the expansion will depend on sustained support from the government and other stakeholders in the aviation industry.
Gen. Kainerugaba welcomed the plans and pledged his support, saying a strong national carrier is important to Uganda’s trade, regional integration and economic development.
The meeting was also attended by Chief Finance Officer Allan Joel Kyeyune, Acting Manager for Human Resource and Administration Anne Apio and Acting Chief Commercial Officer Shakila Lamar Rahim.
