The time for the border demarcation of Uganda from Moyo district with South Sudan at Kajokeji County has been scheduled for 2027.
During a joint cross border peace building conference between the two communities in South Sudan early December 2024, Mr. Ryembe Benjamin Wani the Executive Director of Kajokeji County revealed this to the two communities of Moyo Uganda and Kajokeji County in South Sudan.
“The time has been chosen so that a committee comes to determine the issue of the border, the mentioned time is 2027. Those south Sudanese who fall in the administration of Uganda will have to remain under the administration of Uganda unless they choose to come to the administration of South Sudan and for Ugandans who fall under the administration of South Sudan will also remain under South Sudan administration.” Mr. Ryembe Benjamin said.
Mr. Ryembe added that the border is just an administration line but the people are not divided.
Mr. Julian Sekamwa the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC) Moyo district says preparations are under way at different levels to see a very peaceful demarcation of the border.
“There are various interventions going on at various level at national level and even international because we have the East African community as part of the intervention in demarcating the border. We all know what our leaders are managing the border conflicts and demarcating the border.” Mr. Sekamwa said.
Mr. Sekamwa added that the next meeting has been scheduled in Moyo district to plan for the demarcation of the border and to ensure peaceful co-existence.
The two communities of Kajokeji county and moyo district have been having border struggles over the years but many interventions have been placed to ensure peaceful co-existence at the border.
However the county commissioner for Kajokeji Mr. David Lisi Christopher warned the two communities to maintain the current stand of the border.
“Where you are at the border be there, don’t move an inch where Ugandan are taking territory or south Sudanese are holding. Let’s maintain our relationship within those limitations until time comes for the governments to demarcate the border.” Mr. Lisi warned.
He added that incase of need for relocation, communities should follow from authorities.
The members have resolved to hold routine joint cross border peace building conference to strengthen relationships of the two communities.
