While inspecting the ongoing construction works on the Moyo-Yumbe-Koboko road, the Minister of Works and Transport, Fred Byamukama, has assured residents of Moyo that the road will be completed before the end of this year.

Addressing residents of Moyo on the progress of the Laropi-Afojio road and Laropi Bridge on Friday evening, September 18, 2026, Byamukama said residents will see a tarmac road before January.

“Mine, I came to look at the roads to ensure the roads are done, and I have told the constructor that by the time we go for Christmas, the people of Moyo should be stepping on tarmac road,” he assured.

Byamukama further urged residents to go to their gardens, make good money, and buy good clothes to come and step on the tarmac road.

Meanwhile, Aleru Tom Aza, the State Minister for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives and area Member of Parliament for Moyo West County, has requested the Ministry of Works to increase the planned road works within Moyo Town Council from five to ten kilometres in preparation for the area’s anticipated municipality status.

“Hon Minister, through affirmative action, we are requesting you, instead of only constructing five kilometres of road within Moyo Town Council, we will be very happy if you can increase it to ten kilometres so that we can prepare ourselves adequately for the municipality,” Aza said.

Musa Noah, the area Member of Parliament for Koboko North, who also doubles as the Regional Chief Whip, said he will work together with leaders from the Madi sub-region to promote the development of West Nile.  “I have heard the prayers of my colleague. He said you need ten kilometers instead of five kilometers; you need municipal status. I will work together with him. If that comes in Parliament, I will support it,” he said.

Meanwhile, Vukoni Jimmy, the LC Five Chairperson of Moyo District Local Government, has asked the Ministry of Works and Transport to also consider rehabilitating the road from Panjala in Dufile Sub-county to Palorinya in Obongi District, which he says is in a poor state.
