The Bishop Emeritus of Lira Catholic Diocese Joseph Oyanga has been laid to rest. Bishop Oyanga was buried at Lira Diocese Bishops Ground next to the grave of the first Bishop Caesar Asili. Bishop Oyanga, 82 succumbed to cardiac failure on Sunday at Saint Anthony Hospital, Tororo.

The Director of Aber Hospital who was also his personal doctor, Father Doctor Sam Okori, told mourners that Oyanga died of a weak heart which caused him difficulty in breathing,

The chairperson Uganda Episcopal Conference Archbishop John Baptist Odama urged Christians to emulate the life of Oyanga,

Archbishop of Kampala Arch Diocese Kizito Lwanga described Bishop Oyanga as loving, beautiful and a humble servant of God.

Oyanga was born on February 28, 1936, in Omoro village in Lira District.

He was ordained a priest at Tororo Diocese on May 19, 1963.

He worked in Tororo Diocese until July 14, 1989, when he was elected the second Bishop of Lira Diocese.

On October 1st, 1989 he was consecrated bishop of Lira Diocese and later retired in December 2, 2003, aged 75. End.
