Inconsistent water and power supply have been cited among the factors that have slowed the progress of the expansion and renovation works on Uganda Martyrs Cathedral Lira that commenced in November last year.
Speaking during the 4th Review Meeting, Eng. Godfrey Ojok, the Managing Director of Gotino Specialists Construction Company, the company undertaking the renovation and expansion works requested for an extension of 2-months to enable him carry out quality work.
Responding to his request, Eng. Moses Ekwel one of the Project Management Committee members told the contractor to put his request in writing.
Eng. Robert Bongomin, the Clerk of Works advised the contractor to hire more masons to speed up the work.
Extent of works covered
Currently, part of the main building has been roofed. The left wing is undergoing plastering and the vents have already been installed for aeration while timber has been fixed awaiting roofing. Likewise the sacristy side is awaiting roofing. The right wing is also ready for roofing. Meanwhile, the contractor was advised to increase the side of the door while inside the church will be painted white up and they will maintain the Blue colour of Mary Mother of the Church down. The ceiling around the altar area will be replaced while the Side altar will be shifted to the entrance of the right wing.
Commencement of works
Expansion of Uganda Martyrs Cathedral commenced in November last year after stalling for months. Initially, the contractor was given 6-months to complete the works which would have ended on 15th May 2019. However, with the request from the contractor for an extension, it could see the construction work go on till July this year. End
