Authorities in Maracha district have banned border markets following suspected cases of corona-virus in the area.

The district security community members suspended all operations of markets along DR Congo route including weekly and monthly markets like Nyadri Market.

The Resident District Commissioner Cherop Esther has deployed UPDF to guard all the markets.

According to Maracha district health officer Dr. Paul Onzubo, they have recorded three suspected persons. One is isolated in the hospital, the other two are from Kijomoro Sub County. Samples have been taken from them. It’s suspected that these people have been living in Kenya.

The caretaker in charge of Kijomoro Health Centre IV Adika Bernard stresses that when they heard about the corona-virus the CME alerted the community about it.

Dr. Alphonse Taban the in charge of St. Joseph hospital Maracha says they have few items on ground like aprons, gloves, masks and an isolation room to handle any cases.

In the wake of these three suspected cases most health facilities and health workers in Maracha district are on high alert.

The health workers have been enhanced to skills to handle cases and also installing hand washing facilities. End
