At least 318 dogs were vaccinated against rabies both in For God parish and Obiya West in Bardege-Layibi division, Gulu city. This free pet vaccination exercise was conducted by the Big Fix Uganda which is committed to improving the health and welfare of animals and creating positive human-animal bonds in the community.

Dr. Simon Angura of the big fix Uganda explains the reason why they always take their vaccination clinic nearer to the community is to offer free rabies vaccination and deworming of dogs to minimize the expenses that maybe incurred by the pet owners in terms of transportation and they also use the outreaches to have physical interface with the community on why they need to vaccinate their pets regularly.

“We are working together with the rest of the world to see that we end Rabies by 2030 by ensuring that the community embraces pet vaccination,” he remarked.

Mr. Francis Opobo a resident of For God parish in Bardege-Layibi division Gulu city who is keeping a German shepherd dog breed appreciates the big fix Uganda for taking their services nearer to the community since it is very important to vaccinate dogs against rabies because dogs help a lot when it comes to protection.

“I encourage my fellow members of the public to utilize this opportunity because when you treat your dogs you will always be safe from spending unnecessarily but if you don’t treat your dogs, when they bite someone you will spend up to around 480,000shs just for a dose of anti-rabies,” he stressed.

Simon Peter, a resident of Wi-aworanga in Bardege -Layibi division said he loves dogs because they offer protection when robbers come to attack your home.

According to the big fix Uganda Omoro district has the highest number of rabies cases in west Acholi.
