Police officers in west Nile have been cautioned against having multiple relationships and marriages given the hardening economic situations in the country
Last week, Police Commissioner in charge of Community Policing in the Uganda police force Muleterwa Anatoli was for a visit in west Nile.
While addressing the police during a morning parade at the west Nile regional police headquarters in Arua city the same day, he warned that, since many young men and women are now joining the force, there is a huge challenge of multiple relationships and marriages that are affecting police work and profession that need to be paid attention to and controlled.
“you young men and women, don’t enjoy what is not yours. Especially for the young men who don’t have women. If you go for a woman here, be ready to pay. If you think you must and cannot do without, get a woman and settle. Avoid multiple affairs. Every woman you intend to love is a mouth to feed. Every child you produce is a child to be looked after.”
“You young men, your biggest problem is greed. Every woman you see, you want to love her. Your salary is far less than that of a commissioner, but you have more women than a commissioner. Where are you going with life? And also, you the police women are copying from your brothers and colleagues the men. You are loving this man and you are jumping to another man. Where are you going with your body? What are you experimenting on? By the way as you are experimenting with your body, you do not know that there are a lot of issues that come with that kind of stuff,” he questioned.
According to the commissioner, as a result of having multiple relationships and marriages, a number of police officers have ended up with burdens of loans which they are failing to manage to service.
“Because of that kid of lifestyle, many officers are highly indebted, many officers begin running around and are not deployed. Because of that, it makes you to have a negative attitude towards other fellow officers. Learn to live responsibly as long as you are living within your means,” the commissioner emphasized.
He was on a visit to the region in community policing that was extended to the refugee settlements to find out and respond to matters facing refugees that need police interventions.
