The Arua City Boda-Boda Association Electoral Commission has announced the electoral programme for their upcoming general election scheduled for November 2026. The process began with the display and verification of the voters’ register from October 5th to 19th, followed by candidate nominations from October 20th to 27th. Campaign activities are set to run from October 28th to November 24th. The election will take place on November 25th, with a subsequent swearing-in and handover ceremony scheduled for December 11th.
Following the death of the former chairman, interim chairperson Swadick Amaku has been overseeing the association’s affairs, with a mandate to lead until the full elections are conducted.
Adaraman Azamuke, Arua City Boda-Boda Association Electoral Commission Chairman called on all boda-boda riders to actively participate in the electoral process, advocating for all to comply with rules and regulations.
“Let us come together embrace this exercise by filling the voters register, vote and make the election unique from the previous elections we have been conducting before, I want to encourage all of us to be humble, love one another because we all one, avoid conflicts, use one language without any religious or cultural attachments in this election” he said.
To contest in the elections, candidates must submit photocopies of their boda-boda registration, national identity card, recent passport-sized photograph, and academic documents, with no specific educational qualification requirements.
Swadick Amaku, Outgoing Chairman urged riders to participate actively and encouraged new leaders to address issues such as unregistered boda-boda riders infiltrating the industry.
“We have so many challenges that we face as Arua city boda-boda association such as registration of all boda-boda riders and issuing them with identification cards which we have not done 100%, as a result people always think that all the riders that cause accident on the road are boda-boda riders which is not true, even before the elections we really need to create clear difference between boda-boda riders and other riders because currently they are mixed up” he said.
The election will be conducted based on the number of registered voters, with a total budget of 8,400,000 shillings. The mode of voting will depend on available funds—either by printing ballot papers or by a line-up method.
The new leadership is expected to prioritize unity, collaborate with security agencies to tackle city-wide crime, and enforce statutory requirements like motorcycle registration.
The election aims to promote transparency and establish a structured, central administration capable of representing over 5,000 registered boda-boda riders across Arua’s urban divisions.
Ultimately, the election seeks to select leaders who will streamline operations and foster growth within Arua’s commercial motorcycle transport sector.
