As the demand of blood in the various health facilities in West Nile sub region is on increase, Arua regional blood bank is in Madi Sub region for a five days blood donation drive.

The blood donation drive started on Monday July 22, 2024 in Obongi district where about 70 units of blood was collected.

The team therefore expects to have over 400 units in Moyo as they plan to close this drive on Friday.

According to Owinji Robert Onyol the focal person blood requirement Arua, every unit of blood donated by one person can save lives of three people hence urging the locals to embrace blood donations.

“We all know that there is no factory manufacturing blood in the world, the only place where blood is manufactured is human body, that’s why we don’t sell to any person,” he noted

Owinji added that blood is supposed to be given for free that’s why they are appealing to the community to come voluntarily to support the sick by giving blood.

Meanwhile Bayo Roland a six time donor says the decision is in heart to save lives of the people. “There was a day I went to the hospital, I found a certain kid suffering and was lacking blood, then I asked myself if it’s like this, where a hospital can get blood, so it’s from us so I also started giving out blood,” he noted. He further encouraged the public to support the sick by giving blood.

Whereas Zauma Monica another blood donor shares the motive of giving blood being a woman, she says that,  “As a woman I love to give blood because I want to save lives of many people outside who are in need of blood, people who are at the verge of dying because they don’t have enough blood,” she disclosed.

However Mandera the Moyo branch focal point person Uganda Red Cross encouraged the people of Madi sub region to have positive attitudes in giving blood. “Giving blood is really paramount, let’s think positive, all of us in the region need blood from the hospital through your relatives,” she noted.

He also encouraged the stakeholders to sensitize the community on the aspect and the benefit of giving blood.
