AVSI UGANDA FOUNDATION TRAINS AT LEAST 19,000 YOUNG PEOPLE ON AGRIPRENEURSHIP

AVSI Uganda Foundation has trained at least 19000 youth across Uganda on different skills through their project called skilling AGRIPRENEURSHIP youth employment (SAY) aimed at increasing employment opportunities and income within the agriculture value chain among the youth.

Mr. Mosese Cik, the chief of party for SAY project at AVSI Uganda Foundation said this project amins at skilling the young people on AGRIPRENEURSHIP for increased employment and income.

Cik further adds that they have been able to surpass their target of 18800 youth to benefit under this project, where they have so far trained 19,000 young people and placed at 11000 of them into employment directly across the country. "Out of the 11,000 young youth who are already in employment, 8,700 of them are in self-employment"he remarked. "we were also aiming to link 3000 youth to wage employment but we ended up linking link 1,100 of them to wage employment in various agribusinesses within Uganda, these youth are from the age of 18 to 30 years old" he emphasized.

The deputy CAO Gulu district, Mr. Lagu Samuel applauded Avsi Uganda Foundation for bringing this project timely to complement government efforts in ensuring that they provide employment to the youth and as Gulu district they have befitted in this project through livelihood intervention for youth groups.
"There are six youth groups spread across four-sub counties in Gulu district which include Unyama, Paicho, Owoo, Pokony which are benefitting under this AVSI youth livelihood intervention project", he confirmed.

Some of the youth who benefitted from this project said they gained a lot of skills which they believe will them to venture in a number of agribusiness related activities.

This project called skilling AGRIPRENUERSHIP youth employment (SAY) is being piloted in Northern, Eastern, Western, Central regions and Yumbe district for west Nile sub region and it is expected to come to an end in December this year.
