First Lady and Minister of Education and sports, Mrs. Janet Kataaha Museveni has urged young people in Acholi sub-region to have high respect for their parents in irrespective of their educational levels.

She made the remarks during a two-day regional youth summit hosted by Sacred heart SS in Gulu city which attracted more than 4,000 students from the secondary schools in Acholi sub-region last week. “God knew that in this life we need people who can guide us to live life and make an impact in this world and be successful, those guides are your parents, your parents may be uneducated, be old, you may think they do not know much but God brought you into the world through your parents and therefore you should not just look down upon them, remember your parents are your first guide in this life and the Bible says you are to respect your father and mother,” she said.

“We were given four fundamental questions, and these questions are, who am I? Why am I here where? Where am I going? And how do I get there? Generally, these questions were asking us to have a deeper look in our selves so that we can make rightful decisions for our future”. Our first theme that we learnt was leadership. And in that, I learnt that as a leader, I should be a responsible and honest leader and you should use your position to uphold your subjects very well,” Joel Oneka a student from St. Joseph’s college layibi stated.

Judith Ayerwoth Gloria, a student from sacred heart secondary school said, they have learnt a lot and all the students now have the mindset that, their virginity is their pride. “So there is going to be a great change in northern Uganda through this engagement”, Ayerwoth added. “We students in northern Uganda, face the challenge of low self-esteem but this gathering will help to tackle that”, she further said.
The Regional youth summit was organized by the organization of African first ladies for development.
