Heads of catholic social communicators in Uganda have been empowered with the skills of project planning and management so as to attract the favors of the foreign doors to support them in their projects.

This training is part of the one week activities in preparation for the celebration of the National communications week 2024 hosted by Arua diocese.

During a training for the catholic communicators in Uganda on Wednesday, May 1^st 2024, in Arua city, Rev. Sr. Sarah Muhindu, the director of Kasese Guide radio narrated that project planning and management has been a challenge to them due to lack of knowledge. “In most cases we have been writing projects but we just do the things naturally, we have no idea, we have not gone to class to do this, in most cases you feel you want to write a certain project for media house but you don’t know the interest of the donor,” Rev. Sarah testified.

Meanwhile Francis Jjunju, a staff of Radio Sapientia a catholic radio in Kampala cited staff turnover as the major challenge affecting projects within the institutions. “Whatever we do in our operations they are projects, project have timeline, and it must have the right people. In the catholic setting we normally have staff turnover because of new appointments or change in departments, so this might affect the project whereby the funder is strictly following the person who was put in the project,” Jjunju cited.

But Robert Mugambwa a consultant with Rodell consults admonished the managers of the projects to differentiate projects from the duties. “Where you are managing a project and you are holding an office and the bishop has transferred you to another place, of course for a project its time bound you can still manage it.” Mugambwa said.

A project is a planned undertaking with a beginning and an end, which produces a predetermined result and is usually constrained by a schedule and resources.
