AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK COMMITS TO FUND CONSTRUCTION OF LAROPI BRIDGE AND OMI-MOYO-JALE ROAD PROJECT.

African Development Bank (ADB) has pledged to fund the construction of Laropi –Omi Bridge and Laropi- Moyo-jale road.
This was revealed during the visit of a delegation from African development bank and Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) for the final appraisal for the construction of Laropi Bridge on river Nile alongside Laropi-Moyo-Afoji –Jale road link in Moyo district last Thursday.

Mr. Edward Byaruhanga, the manager transport and planning UNRA,   while addressing the leaders and the locals at the site at laropi ferry landing site, said the second appraisal mission is a step towards signing the loan agreement which will finance the civil works of the construction. “We are working tirelessly to see that the project is implemented as soon as possible,”he added.

Mr. Winfred Gicturu the transport engineer African development bank remarked that they are looking forward to a better prosperity in the area. ‘‘We have heard your prayers and requests resources permitting all will be put into consideration’’ she stated.

Mr. George Makajuma, task team leader African development bank explained that the team is working hard to have the loan to the government approved by the bank. He further pointed that they are also looking at other aspects that can bring about social development such as the construction of the omi-Moyo-Jale road. ‘‘We have heard your needs as the people of madi sub region and we have seen with our eyes that the bridge will be a game changer to the community who have been cut off from the rest of the country ”he narrated.

Mr. Tiondi Luga David, the chairperson laropi town council in Moyo district said the region badly needs the bridge which has been over due to deliver services to local population. ‘‘We direly need the bridge and the road, many lives have been lost due to the poor state of the roads, this bridge will improve on the economic status of the region’’, he pointed.

Mr. Williams Anyama, the Moyo district chairperson noted that the prayers and aspirations of the people of madi sub region is to have the bridge constructed to tap Socio-economic opportunities to change lives.

Honorable Aleru Tom Aza, West Moyo County Member of Parliament, explained that they had set a timeline with the Office of the Prime Minister to fast track the procurement process for construction of the bridge.

Whereas, the Resident District Commissioner  Moyo, Mr. Gore Goffin appreciated African development bank for considering the plea of the people of Madi sub region noting that the presence of the bridge and the roads will improve on connectivity in the region.
