The multibillion West Nile regional police vehicle maintenance workshop situated in Arua police barracks has officially been commissioned for use by team of officials from Uganda Police headquarters, regional police leaders and city authorities.

The construction of the facility sitting on 1900 square meter land commenced in March 2022 and was completed in May this year.

During the commissioning ceremony on Wednesday 20th December 2023, SSP. Sserunjongi Eddie, the West Nile regional police commander disclosed that the facility shall help reduce their expenses in maintenance and improve service delivery. “This workshop shall make it possible for us to repair our mobility assets from here than spending money to go up to Kampala. It shall take care of our assets here in West Nile region and North West Nile, to improve our effectiveness and efficiency in service delivery.” SSP. Eddie revealed.

With current advocacy to environmental conservation, Hon. Wadri Sam Nyakua the Arua city Lord mayor however challenged the contractors of the construction works over the missing greening component at the facility. “The facility is big and we are happy about it. My only problem with it is there is no greening aspect of it. The engineers who planned this facility, I want to challenge you that this time we should be going green,” Nyakua lamented.

But while giving response to the query, SCP. Felix Baryamwisaki the deputy director of construction at Uganda Police Force pledged to green the environment as soon as possible. “I promise you the trees will be planted, that why we have the environment police unit,” SCP. Baryamwisaki pledged.

Meanwhile AIGP Charles Birungi the director of welfare and sport at Uganda Police Force cautioned the authorities over the maintenance of the facility so as to last longer. “this is one of the infrastructure we are putting on as part of centralizing the services, the structure is shining, so we don’t expect to come back after two years here and we find a different picture, So maintenance is key,” AIGP. Birungi emphasized.

The West Nile Regional Police vehicle maintenance workshop was constructed by Uganda Police construction unit and funded by the government of Uganda.
