The business in scholastic materials is already rising in Arua City ahead of the opening of the fast term in the 2024 academic year, as schools are set to open in a few days’ time.

Preparation to send the learners back to school has triggered back-to-school shopping, and those who deal in scholastic materials like books, mattresses,  metallic suitcases and many other things.

Waraja Rashul Dalil, who deals in writing materials, said, though there are uncertainties in the prices, the number of customers keep swelling day by day. “Other prices reduced, but most of the prices are increasing. The number of customers keep increasing,” Dalil said. One item that is on a high demand this time in the market is mattress.

Mutunji Derrick, who works with Siaa Foam mattresses, confirmed that, though the prices are rising up, they still maintain their normal prices in the market. “The customers are very huge in number, which is very good for our business, the prices go higher, which may be concerning, but our prices are still normal,” said Derrick.

Meanwhile, Ronald Akuaku, who has a lot of expectations in his school bag business say, there are slight changes in the prices of school bags as the demand keeps on rising.

But generally, the sales increase steadily, as many parents show up to check out the prices, others still expect their children who will join senior one to be admitted in secondary schools, and others still prepare for the deadline day shopping.
