One year after the ministry of local government was tasked by the office of the prime minister to resolve the border conflict between the two districts of Madi Okollo and Terego, leaders in Madi Okollo are still expecting verdict on the disputed land.

For long, there has been tension between Terego and Madi Okollo district officials over revenue collection at Ocea Market, claimed by Uriama and Rigbo sub-counties which later turned into blood shedding.

Hon. Drabe Ismail Adris the district chairman of Madi Okollo says there is still provocation between the two districts as they work. “Last year in the month of March, the leaders of the two districts met in the office of the prime minster on the 18th March 2022. The prime minister did her best and handed over this responsibility to the minister of the local government, to our dismay the minister of local government has not delivered this assignment, as we work, there are provocations between these two district local governments, I would therefore wish to remind the office of the speaker of the parliament that assignment has not yet been done one year down the road so we feel no service has been given to us”. said Drabe.

Similarly, Hon. Afidra Ronald the Member of Parliament for Lower Madi constituency attests that the district chairman and the woman member of parliament are been sucked by this border and land conflict. “The chairman L.C V and the woman M.P are surrounded by conflict over land and boundary and this is sucking them, they are not representing the people well land belongs to the people enshrined in our constitution. The land conflict still remains”, Hon. Afidra affirmed.

The border conflict between Uriama sub-county in Terego district and Rigbo sub-county in Madi-Okollo district started in the late 1990s over resources like taxes, land for agriculture and access to River Nile.
