A recent survey conducted by Arua City Union of Persons With Disability indicates that women make up-to 2,448 out of 4,779 persons with disabilities in the city.

This report also reveals that the women face several challenges due to their conditions, a reason for the formation of Arua City Association of Women With Disability which is intended to address some of the challenges.

This platform according to Councillor representing Persons With Disability in Arua City Council, Kadija Aliru will easily help in coordination. “We had no common ground for our women with disabilities to come together to share experiences, advocate and lobby for their own needs” Kadija informed on the purpose of forming the association.

However, PWD Focal Person in the city, Florence Badaru is hopeful that the set targets of the association will be achieved. “We have different government programs like Emyooga, Parish Development Model (PDM) among many others. In any government program, we include persons with disability because they have percentage” the Focal Person revealed.
