MOYO DISTRICT CHAIRPERSON EMPHASIZES ON INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT IN STATE OF DISTRICT ADDRESS

The Moyo District Chairperson Mr. Williams Anyama has put infrastructure development as key goals to achieve in the struggle to catch up with others as one of the oldest district since colonial rule while speaking through his slogan, we must catch up.

Speaking during his state of the district address on the 1st of September, 2023, Mr. Anyama prioritized infrastructure development as his key focuses in running the district.“The key strategic focuses for economic growth for Moyo district includes construction of Laropi-Omi Bridge, upgrading of Laropi-Afoji-Jale road, upgrading of Koboko-Yumbe-Moyo road.” Mr. Anyama said.

He added there is need to enhance implementation of Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga SACCOs and also critical area people to focus is introduction of high value perennial crops which can fetch good money because there no known cash crops in Moyo District.

The state of the district address should have come in at the end of June or in July accounting the ending financial year but Anyama cited financial challenge that pushed him to address the district in September.    

Hon. Emmanuel Amoko, the moyo district council speaker applauded the chairperson for fulfilling his constitutional obligations to inform citizen on the district status. “The of moyo deserve to hear a lot from you, to also understand where the district came from last financial year and to also see the feature the current financial is heading.”

Honorable Tiondi Charles Dominic, the councilor representing workers revealed that he was convinced with the chairperson emphasis on insecurities cases at the border. “The south Sudanese forces settling in Lefori Sub County has really touched me, displacing our people from Lefori from their homes is something very bad.” Hon Tiondi said. Hon. Tiondi added that as leader of the district they need to work extra hard to see peace in the sub county.

However, Honorable Bada Emmanuel, the councilor representing Moyo Sub County who also double as the chairperson for works committee says corruption issues have not been captured detailed. “We have been lagging behind because corruption hinders a lot of development, I expected the chairperson to indicate to us the amount of money through audits recovered in the last financial year from corruption cases.” Hon Bada said. He added that the address was accommodative but the chairperson should in the next address have detailed information.

Rule 10 sub rule 2 of the standard rule of procedures and local government act section 13 sub rule 5 recommends the district chairperson to address the district at least once in a year.
