Terego District councilors have raised concerns on how the district is managing its Vehicle assets, which they say raise issues of fuel consumptions, security and availability of the vehicles for service delivery and monitoring.

According to the Government asset management guidelines, only the CAO, RDC and LC5 chairperson are allowed to stay with District vehicles at all time.
Speaking at a Council sitting last week, Hon James Ezama the Secretary for works and technical services says taking care of the variety vehicles the district has evidently been hard “Mr. Speaker, as you are aware that Terego District has a variety of assets and equipment’s across multiples departments.

Recognizing the current status of the vehicles, and seeing the necessary inspections, taking care of these are easier said than done and when issues with vehicles fail to be addressed, the damages caused can be costly and potentially life threatening.” James elaborated.

The Female youth Councilor to the District Kairu Draberu Annet said, the district has to do a census of the vehicles and make sure they are parked at the district with proper parking space and security matters looked into. “Once you have assets you don’t know about or their condition, it obviously becomes very hard for you to discuss or manage their movements and use.

The vehicles should be parked right here, the issuing of the parking yard also should be looked into. Issues of security I know we shall be supported by the police though they have not relocated here yet. But I know that will be the work of the security leader to support us with.”Kairu noted.

The RDC seconded this and advised the service deliverers to stay in Terego for better managements “I want to tell you Honorable councilors we waste a lot of fuel that we are supposed to use for service delivery and monitoring in the names of moving up and down, we are aware that none of us using our personal money when fueling to go home and work.

When we are delivering service, we shouldn’t become unique and we want to live in a better life when we are serving people we also want to uplift. To me, Terego has houses for all of us whether it being grass thatched or less, we are supposed to live in Terego not Arua or somewhere else.” said the RDC.

The Government Asset management frame work guidelines 2020 allows the local government to track the status of assets and financial expenditures on these as it permits monitoring and management of all public assets including vehicles.
