The Christians in Arua diocese and the ones in the diaspora have been called upon to support the local donor’s project dubbed, the “jege jege” project to make the diocese attain self-sustainability instead of depending on funding’s from outside.

The local donor’s project was launched in the diocese with the aim of supporting various developmental activities, but top on the agenda is constructing a decent home for the old and sickly priests in Pokea.

A number of leaders echoed their support for this project during the 40th Priestley anniversary of the bishop of Arua diocese, the Rte. Rev Sabino Ochan Odoki on Saturday, by calling upon the Christians and well-wishers in the diocese to contribute for the cause.

Honorable Mario Obiga Kania, the state minister for lands and urban development, who also represents the people of Terego East constituency congratulated the bishop of Arua diocese for starting the project, and encouraged the Christians to support it. “We all should know that, these religious people sacrifice their lives for us, and when it comes to old age, they have nowhere to go, and this is where I want to congratulate the bishop for starting this project.”Obiga said.

According to Peter Debele, the chairperson for the project, not less than 40 million shillings has been collected under the project, and calls for more contributions from the Christians and well-wishers, as the fast project they want to undertake is worth two billion shillings, “We the lay faithful should come out openly to support this project, monthly, we have been collecting this money from the various parishes, we are still appealing to the lay people to donate more,”said Peter.

The Rte. Rev Sabino Ochan Odoki, the bishop of the diocese says, those who are able can register as members for monthly contributions, as others continue to give 100 shillings only.

The “jege jege” project was designed for the Christians to contribute at least 100 shillings monthly, to make it affordable for all the Christians in the diocese.
