Gulu City.

Perinatal death stands at 2-every day in Gulu caused by malnutrition and malaria amongst pregnant mothers.

Gulu Regional referral hospital recorded 349 infant deaths meanwhile St. Mary`s Hospital Lacor had an average 15-deaths monthly and 32 infant deaths were recorded from various health facilities in both Gulu district and Gulu city last year.

According to Poline, an intern Dr. at St. Mary’s hospital Lacor, says that irregular attendance to antenatal schedules and late referrals have been major setbacks in addressing perinatal birth.

Gulu district Biostatistician Elvis Romanson Okello said record shows poor uptake of drugs like folic Acid among pregnant mothers at their early stages of pregnancy.

In 2022, Gulu Regional referral hospital alone lost 60-mothers and 900 newborn babies in the region making it the biggest health burden.
