MINISTER OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT RAFAEL MAGYEZI CAUTIONS LOCAL COUNCIL ONE CHAIRPERSONS AGAINST MISUSE OF STAMPS

The minister for Local Government hon Rafael Magyezi has warned Omoro district local council one chairpersons against the misuse of stamps provided by the government.

According to Magyezi, the local council one chairpersons’ stamps is a powerful tool for administration and service delivery since they are used to authenticate and certify documents for transactions and applications.

He therefore appealed to the leaders to use the instrument responsibly. ‘’Please Use them properly because it is a government tool and can be tracked since they have security features’’ Magyezi cautioned.
 
Geoffrey Okello, the Lc2 chairperson of Abigiri parish in Labora sub county says its true they are not allowed to obtain money from the public for stamp use. ‘’We are not allowed as leaders to get money out of the stamp because it is a public who trusted in our leadership and that means the stamp should be given for free because the law does not allow, although, some people are charging money for stamp which according to me it is not right’’ Okello lamented.

Jimmy Okoyo Latigo, the Local council one chairperson of Acet Central A cell in Odek sub county says that sometimes they do not ask for the money but are willing given by the person seeking support.

Jimmy cited that if one is selling his or her property, they always give it as appreciation out of good deed and will but it is not a must. He adds that the money helps them Lcs to buy some water and others to facilitate their small stationary related challenges.

Stamp Duty is imposed by the Stamps Act. It is a duty payable on any instrument (document) which upon being created, transferred, limited, extended, extinguished or recorded, confers upon any person, a right or liability.
