FIVE POST BANK ARUA BRANCH EMPLOYEES DETAINED OVER ALLEGED THEFT

The territorial police of Arua City Central Business Division (CBD) have arrested and detained 5 Officials of Post Bank Arua Branch over allegation of stealing 138,685,450/= Ugandan shillings from Post Bank Arua Branch. This was revealed by Senior Superintendent of police, SSP Angucia Josephine, the West Nile police Public Relations Officer.

Angucia, identified the five as, Lakwey Leonard the Operations Manager, Feni Walter the Customer Service Officer, Lunkuse Resty a Banking officer, Tenywa David a Banking officer, and  Olara Brian Okidi a Banking officer.

On 05th February 2024, the Regional Head of Distributions Northern Region reported a complain at Arua CBD that some officials of Post Bank Arua Branch allegedly stole cash from the bank branch totaling to 138,685,450/=.

Accordingly, Police opened General Enquiry File(GEF) number 21/2024 to investigate the allegation. On 30th December 2023 when the Risk Team came from Post Bank Head office Kampala to Arua Branch for the end of year Cash Count, they realized that a total of 138,685450/= shillings was missing.

On 28th February 2024, seven of the officials who were allegedly connected with the loss of money were called for a Disciplinary session at Post Bank Head office Kampala. However after hearing what transpired, the Management Post Bank Uganda decided that a criminal proceeding be instituted against the 7 officials.

Five of them who went to Kampala for the Disciplinary session were accordingly arrested and later transfered to Arua City Central Business Division for investigations.

The Branch Manager and the Branch Operations Supervisor escaped the arrest since they never appeared for the Disciplinary session at the Head office. Preliminary charge of theft of money has been preferred on the suspects pending advice by the Resident State Attorney.
