HEADTEACHERS APPEAL TO SCHOOLS TO EMBRACE GIRL GUIDES DURING A TRAINING IN GULU CITY

More than forty-six headteachers and Girl guides` leaders from both government and private primary and secondary schools in Gulu City have been trained on girl guiding.

Santa Akullu Oketa, the national chairperson of Uganda girl guides said that the training is aimed at rejuvenating girl guides in schools across the country in line with the current policy by the government that seeks to promote girl guides at every school.

Lilly Labeja Oryem, the head teacher of Obiya West urged her fellow headteachers, teachers and parents to embrace girl guiding wholeheartedly. She noted that girl guiding equips girls with some life skills which can help them to overcome some of the challenges they get confronted with in their day-to-day life.

Mrs. Joyce Acan Oryema, the head teacher of Gulu Public primary school who also doubles as Gulu City girl guides` commissioner, said that she has been able to introduce girl guiding in a number of schools she has worked in. She encourages her fellow teachers to promote girl guiding in their schools.

Irene Grace Lajwee, one of the participants, said that she will use the knowledge which got from the training in promoting girl guiding in their school, adding that girl guiding helps a lot in preparing one for life.

Uganda Girl Guides Association is a voluntary organization, non-political, without any discrimination to faith, contest or any other situation.
