Anaka town council in Nwoya district is intending to enact investment friendly legislations to improve on solid waste management. This comes at the time when the town council is preparing to twin with Kampala City Council Authority on solid waste management.

Jude Byansi Zziwa, Manager solid waste and environment management at Kampala City Council Authority thinks that laws would streamline operations of private sector players in waste management.

According to Byansi, the laws shall help regulate the private sector in this business to increase revenue through public-private partnership.
However, Christopher Omara the Resident District Commissioner Nwoya challenged the urban council authorities to regulate vending along the streets to reduce cost of garbage management in Anaka town council.

Daniel Ayiga, the senior assistant town clerk said that they have already acquired a piece of land in Ludii cell for the construction of the landfill and waste treatment plant. Ayiga added that they are now looking for money to develop the space.

Denis Okema the town council chairperson said they now have garbage bins in major points in the town council and they have also directed that all animals must be slaughtered from the town council’s abattoir.

The formal memorandum of understanding with Kampala capital city authority shall focus on mentorship on waste management, revenue mobilization and master plan development.
