Mvara senior secondary school in Arua city is seeking for over 765 million shillings for the construction of the first chapel of the school after its establishment 74 years ago, in memory of its founder Margret Lloyd. Late Margret Lloyd a lay missionary in the Anglican faith started the school in 1949 as a village junior school which later became a senior secondary school in 1960’s.

During a ground breaking ceremony at the school on Sunday, Rev. Canon. John Ondoma a former head teacher of the school reveals that dedicating the first chapel of the school to Margret Lloyd is worthy because of her tremendous work in West Nile region. “If you take how long people have served as head teachers in Mvara secondary school, of those who served as head teachers, Margret Lloyd served the longest. She loved her students so much and loved them to grow in the Christian way. So I think it’s is very appropriate to call that building in honor of her. None of us who worked as head teacher did as much as she did.” Canon. Ondoma revealed.

Mvara senior secondary school is an inclusive school which has about 51 students with special needs.

Matua Eliakhim the head teacher of the school castigates the members of the public who still complain about lack of inclusive schools in West Nile but rather appeals to the government to put up a resource center at the school to boost inclusive education. “Unfortunately many people still talk that there is no school for special needs in West Nile, Mvara is one of them, currently we have 51 students and they are doing exceptionally good. We thank the government of Uganda for the support of this inclusive education. We now need a resource center, we don’t have a single building for the special needs.” Matua revealed.

But Hon. Atima Jackson Buti, the Member of Parliament who officiated the ground breaking ceremony assured the school of the success of this project and warns the administration to be on high alert as the country is battling attack on schools. “I want to assure you, any work of God once started will be completed with God’s grace. This chapel will be completed. We have a challenge in this country. The insecurity in the country is alarming, what happened in Kasese can happen anywhere, so I want us to guard jealously. We have held security meetings in the city and the region, the country is on high alert. We don’t want what happened in Kasese to happen in our region here.” Atima warned.

Out of the 765 million, about 76 million shillings has been realized for far to step up the construction works of the chapel.
