LOGIRI GIRLS SECONDARY SCHOOL SCOOPS TWO WINNING ATHLETICS COMPETITIONS TROPHIES

Holy Trinity Logiri Girls Secondary School scooped two winning Trophies during Arua District Secondary Schools athletics Competitions held at Ajono play Grounds.

In Cross Country run for Girls, Holy Trinity Logiri Girls Secondary School’s athletes took the 1st, 3rd, 7th and the 9th Positions in the Race, giving them an average position of 5; automatically qualifying them as the Champions of the Event.

Logiri Girls Secondary School also accumulated 184 Points in the Field and Track events, crowning them as the Champions for the Girls. Whereas in the Cross Country run for boys, Okufura Secondary School’s athletes took the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and the 12th Positions in the Race, giving them an average position of 5.5, qualifying them as the Champions.

However, Vurra Secondary School boys’ athletes accumulated 184 Points in the Field and Track events, topping them as the Champions for the Boys. The three days for the Secondary Schools athletics competition in Arua District went on, with negligible challenges.

According to Edema Winston the technical Chairperson at Arua District, Each School came with more than five Teachers to ensure proper control of the Students, backed up by the police, and this made the tournament to run peacefully. He however castigated parents who prevent their Children from participating in sports. “We don’t only excel in academics. You never know a child may be very good in sports which may be source of his or her earning in Future.” He cautions.

Malaise Bella is a senior four Student of Holy Trinity Logiri Girls Secondary School who won the Girls Medley race and when asked how she was   able to make it, she says it is the support of her sports Teachers who always time her training sessions and encouraged her to reduce the time to the standard. “May be it is God who gave me this talent and my Dream is to become Like Dorcus Inzikuru.” She reveals.  

Asima Lawrence is a 400 meters Boys race winner from Ushindi Secondary School. He says He envisions his performance just like Usain Bolt his Role Model in the Short races. “This Race really requires a lot of Courage for you to come to perform like that. I am really grateful to God for making me the winner of the Game.” He appreciates.  

During the Award Ceremony, the Secondary Schools’ Head Teachers’ Association Chairman Nyabo Peter, thanked his fellow Head teachers who were able to send participants, and for their timely Contributions. He however has this caution for the Selected Students. “You are going to compete as Arua District. So can you work together to compete favorably so that we come back with trophies.” He urged.

There are a total of 16 Secondary Schools in Arua District (10 Private Schools and 6 Government aided Secondary Schools).
However only Eight  of these schools participated including Anyavu SS, Arivu SS, Bondo Army SS, Modern SS Ocoko, Nile High Odia Campus, Okufura SS,  Ushindi SS, Holy Trinity Logiri Girls SS, and Vurra Secondary School.

David Dramadri, the Inspector of Schools in charge of Sports in Arua District says Ministry of Education and Sports has pronounced itself very clearly that there must be co curricular activities in all schools.

He continues to say that the Students in Private schools are not private but must all be given equal opportunity to participate in the Co curricular activities. He however summoned all the schools who absconded the tournament to explain reasons for their abscondment.  “We want to meet with these schools; before we take any step we want to understand why they have failed to participate in this Championship.” He noted.

Alfred Okuonzi the District Chairman for Arua District graced the Event as the Chief Guest and promised full political support for Arua the athletics Team for his District. “This is going to be called cross district championship. May I therefore say that please go and compete in order to be selected among the bigger team representing West Nile Region?” He Challenges.

A total of 42 Students (22 Boys and 20 Girls) who were the best performing students in all the field and track events were selected to represent Arua District at the Regional Competitions hosted by Arua City at National Teachers College Muni play Grounds.
