METU SECONDARY SCHOOL OLD STUDENTS ASSOCIATION COMMITS TO REVIVE ITS LOST GLORY

The old students of Metu secondary school under their umbrella body MESSA are committed to revive the past glory of the school. The old students have planned to restore the lost glory of the institution through enhancing its enrollment but also improve the performance of the school.

In a bid to achieve the objective of improving performance of the school, in 2020, the old students formed Metu Secondary School Alumni with the aim to facilitate engagement with stakeholders to advance the goal of the school to become an hub for academic excellence which used to be in the early 90s with over 3000 student’s.

Mr. Peter Luzige, the head teachers of the school said the current enrollment of students stands at 440 compared to 134 students last year. He has attributed the rise in the number of students to the contributions of old students association who want to revive the past glory of the school. “We are proud  of you the former students and we are very grateful that the glue that has kept you together still holds, special thanks to the chairperson Metu secondary students association”, the head teacher remarked

The school that was previously known for her excellent performance in Madi sub region but for several years now the school struggles in getting first grade in Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB).

Ms. Joan Teria, the chairperson of metu secondary school old students association during the celebration of Metu ss day on Saturday, July 1, 2023, said they are more determined to work as a team to improve on the enrolment and performance of the school. “The membership of MESSA is open to every student who studied at Metu ss and they all have a role to play, ’she said.

She noted that in a bid to create competition among the students to improve performance, the old students of the school have provided partial bursaries to best four performing students but also support students to participate in debate competition.

Engineer Addi Gabriel, one of the old students argued that there is need to make the Metu ss   day the biggest in the school calendar in order to achieve the goals. He has appealed for involvement of other stakeholders in supporting the school, Similarly, Ms. Lindrio Oliga another old student assured the students of their commitments as old students of the school in order for them to excel in their studies but urged the students to be focus if they are to be successful in life. “You cannot go further unless you discipline yourself mentally, spiritually, physically and socially”, she narrated.

In order to motivate the students to work harder, the old students have promised cash price of UGX: 100,000, UGX50,000 for any student who may get D1 and D2 in any science subject in O-level, meanwhile UGX:200, 000 and UGX100,000 for those in A-level .
