MUNI UNIVERSITY TO BUILD A STATUE IN MEMORY OF LATE PROFESSOR CHRISTINE DRANZOA

The first lady and Minister for Education and sports Mrs. Janet Museveni has advised management of Muni University to prioritize investing in research and innovation for meaningful community development.

In her speech read by State Minister for Primary Education, Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaducu during a memorial lecture in honor of late Professor Christine Dranzoa, she said, “Explore new partnership towards multi-disciplinary research and innovations at muni university as well as effective meaningful community engagement.”

Late professor  dranzoa was a double edged sword with a lot of passion in both education and research, the Executive Director of Forum for African Women Educationalist (FAWE) Suzan Opok Tumusime described late Dranzoa as a woman  who created a difference in the lives of the girl child.  “She was a passionate, vigilant and effective woman, that’s the woman that we saw. She was an advocate, an advocate for girls, an advocate for equity, equality”, she stressed.

Late dranzoa left a legacy that is immeasurable to quantify ,The chairman Muni University Council, Engineer Joel Aita says that late dranzoa was a devoted servant with an  exceptional  zeal in education. “But professor Christine story as a founding vice chancellor, was marked by her unparalleled dedication in fostering the culture of learning, research and innovation, she believed that education had the power to transform lives and society”, he remarked.

The Acting Vice Chancellor Muni University, Professor Simon Anguma reveals that the management of the university has resolved to establish an educational foundation to continue with the legacy that late Dranzoa had initiated. “By the time of her demise, the third university council was being formed and the council resolved as follows, one to build an effigy in memory of the late professor Christine Dranzoa at this campus, second to establish Professor Christine Dranzoa trust fund to support education of the girl child”, he emphasized.

At the memorial lecture, the science and technology building was launched in honor of the fallen hero. The day ran under the theme “upholding the legacy of transitioning Muni to a research led and community engaged university.”

About Professor Dranzoa.
In June 2014, she was appointed to the position of Acting Vice-Chancellor Muni University. Before her appointment, she served as Deputy Director School of Graduate Studies, Makerere University between April 2005- May 2010.

Over the years, her work has attracted wide-ranging recognition from the public including her professional peers. Her first major recognition came in 1999 from the Forum for African Women Educationists-Uganda chapter who awarded Dranzoa a medal of excellence in education for mentoring the girl child and she went on to become the honorary secretary for the pan-African body.
