Leaders from south Sudan were on Friday locked in a closed door meeting with their counterparts in west Nile region to discuss bilateral relationship after unknown armed from South Sudanese invaded the area. Reports obtained from Moyo and Yumbe districts indicates over 2000 residents of Gweri north village in Lefori sub county Moyo district have been displaced after their houses and other properties were destroyed. During the meeting, the two parties resolved to rectify the violence for peaceful co-existence.

According to Mr. Anyama Williams, the chairperson Moyo who doubles as chairperson of west Nile districts, there must be a deliberate effort by leaders of both parties to ensure insecurity issues along the borders are minimized. “We have to track criminal minded persons in these countries so that people from these communities leaves in peace. As west Nile leaders, we are going to organize for community dialogues and peace conferences to end violence between the two countries,” Anyama added.

Mr. Angelo Daya Lodu, the advisor for peace and security in central Equatorial state remarked that the two countries will not tolerate and hide any criminal elements in order to maintain the existing peace and stability. He said there is need to collectively resettle the people who have lost property in the conflict. “They should be resettled back to the places where they have been. As leaders we have to take responsibilities for these. I know they have lost household properties, even animals. These cases are on both sides and we have to help them out,” Mr. Lodu said.

However, Reverend Dr Paul Yususuk the arch bishop of central equatoria internal province has urged the two countries not to seek for revenge but instead continue to coexist. Both parties signed a memorandum after the meeting to adhere to the set resolutions.

Some of the resolutions of the closed door meeting include speeding up processes to demarcate the borderlines between the two countries, formation of committees to lead peace processes.
