The Arua deputy resident district commissioner Mr. Ham Ezama has warned non-governmental organizations against subversive activities, supporting and promotion of same sex activities.

Mr Ezama issued the caution while speaking at the baseline dissemination workshop organized by CEFORD in partnership with Aga Khan Foundation at white castle hotel in Arua district on Tuesday august 1st. “We don’t want subversive kind of activities, more especially those ones who are peddling issues of homosexuality, it is very common in some NGOs, they don’t want to put it in the open but in all the components of their activities, they want to put that information of homosexuals in the minds of young people, those areas if you do, for us we shall not relate with you”, he noted.

He revealed that the office of the president has tasked all resident district commissioners to find out NGOs that engage in same sex activities, warning that they will not be tolerated.  “It is a serious assignments given to all RDCs and all security agencies to investigate, to carry out research on what NGOs are doing in communities to make sure that those issues should not happen”, Ezama revealed.

President Yoweri Museveni on May 29th 2023 signed the anti-gay bill into law. The law imposes the death penalty or life imprisonment for certain same-sex acts, up to 20 years in prison for “recruitment, promotion and funding” of same-sex “activities”, and anyone convicted of “attempted aggravated homosexuality” faces a 14-year sentence.
