Some residents of Purongo sub county in Nwoya district have been relieved of the challenge of lack of electricity as they are now enjoying stable electricity supply from Bioenergy solar hybrid mini-grid being supplied by Mandulis Energy.

Sophia Odokotho, a resident of Got Ngur cell, Purongo Sub County in Nwoya district where the Bioenergy solar hybrid mini grid is located is not regretting being connected to the bioenergy solar hybrid mini-grid early last year. “Currently the electricity is providing security lights for my family asset, lighting my house, charging phones and the road that leads to my home which is providing protection against a number of things like snakes,” she remarked.

Denis Opiyo is another client of Mandulis Energy has been using the electricity for his unisex saloon business for free since getting connected until this month when the user fees of UgX920 was levied per unit of power. “I`m able to offer services like hot combing, shaving, lining, hair drying among others with minimal operation cost”, he said.

Meanwhile, Joyce Alanyo, a resident of Paromo is eagerly waiting to be connected on the same mini-grid. “I have now saved ten thousand shillings (shs10000) to start making payments for the power once I`m connected to bioenergy solar hybrid mini grid,” she noted.

Similarly, Ojok Jacob, secretary for works and technical services of Nwoya district a resident of Lakwaya says he is waiting to be connected to the bioenergy solar hybrid mini grid.

The project Engineer, Peter Nyeko says plans are underway to connect the entire village and neighboring villages in the whole Purongo sub county in the nearby future. “Currently we are generating 50-voltage per hour”, Nyeko said.

Johnson Kezikia Nyeko, the executive director of Mandulis Energy says the project has been approved by Uganda electricity regulatory authority.
So far 115 families have been connected to the bioenergy solar hybrid mini-grid within the radius of 5 Square Kilometers.
